Playlist Theme: Country

To start, I despise (I know, that’s a harsh word, who am I to be so judgmental?) what is classified as country music by today’s standards. When I listen to country music performed by today’s country artists, the songs all sound the same; there’s no va va voom! There’s no story. There’s no life. I like my country music to tell a story. I like my country music to have feeling.

Today’s playlist, while country music themed, will be all about sharing my favorite Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and Willie Nelson songs.

So here it goes:

Walkin’ After Midnight—Patsy Cline

Crazy—Patsy Cline

Coal Miner’s Daughter—Loretta Lynn

D-I-V-O-R-C-E—Tammy Wynette

Streets of Bakersfield—Buck Owens

Buddy—Willie Nelson

Jackson—Johnny Cash, June Carter

Cocaine Blues—Johnny Cash

Family Bible—Willie Nelson

Girl from the North Country—Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash

I hope you liked this week’s selection!

  1. I like modern country… but not the stuff you typically hear on country radio. Sera Cahoone, Margo Price, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, Drive-by Truckers, Steve Gunn, Bow Thayer, Jason Wilbur… those are the people I see carrying on the storytelling tradition of country.

That said, I like your picks here. Girl from the North Country will always be a favorite.
